The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announces the 2011 Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Century Club Contractors.

This Century Club Award recognizes companies nationwide that have improved the energy efficiency of more than 100 homes in the past year. These contractors participate with the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program, which is sponsored locally by organizations such as utilities and government agencies.

“Century Club Contractors have focused their businesses on providing comprehensive solutions resulting in whole-house improvements backed by ENERGY STAR.  These improvements increase the comfort and value of a home, and reduce the amount of energy used to operate the home.  That means money in the homeowner’s pocket, a more reliable grid, and a healthier environment,” said Ely Jacobsohn, Program Manager of Home Performance with ENERGY STAR.

Contractors participating in a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program get specialized training to diagnose homes to determine where energy improvements are warranted.  Rather than focusing on a single problem, like an old heating or cooling system, not enough insulation in the attic, or leaky windows, these contractors consider how improvements throughout a home can work together to give homeowners the best results.  Homes can be expected to be more comfortable, healthier and result in typical energy savings of 20 percent or more.
